Kumamoto is famous for one of the most popular Japanese castles in Japan; Kumamoto castle. Also if you are a fan of the most famous Japanese Samurai; Musashi Miyamato, you can go to Reigando shrine where he wrote his famous book “The book of five rings”. Main area in Kumamoto is around the Kumamoto castle but there are no hotels with gym facility in convenient location for tourists and there is only 1 local gym which sell a day pass to travelers. So, it is better to find a hotel nearby a local gym with a day pass. Please see my recommendations below the map.
There is only 1 local gym which sell a day pass to travelers in the main area (red icon on the map).
Central Sports Gym Sakuramachi Kumamoto: Day pass costs JPY2200 per visit. Open weekday 10.00-22.00, weekend 10.00-20.00. Closed on Thursday. See the official gym website.
To avoid embarrassment and disappointment at the gym, please read Tips and etiquette before going to the gym in Japan.
If you are an Anytime Fitness Member in your home country, you can use 1100+ Anytime Fitness gyms in Japan 24/7 for free (your home country’s membership covers the cost). You can use the same security key tag to enter. Often Anytime Fitness gyms in Japan are hard to find as they are located in the back street or on the 2nd floor of big building. In this area, there is only 1 gym in convenient location as follows (Purple icon on the map)
My recommendation goes to Dormy Inn Kumamoto Natural Hot Spring .This modern 3-star hotel is only 2 mins walk from Central Sports Gym Sakuramachi Kumamoto. And it has a natural hot spring bath you can enjoy after workout ! Kumamoto Castle is also within walking distance. Check out the review and price from here.
If you are coming from Fukuoka city by a bullet train and stay in Kumamoto just for 1-2 nights, THE BLOSSOM KUMAMOTO is a good option. You can take local transportations for all direction from there. It is next to the Kumamoto station, and it has a gym (5 cardio machines only)
