Nagoya is located between Tokyo and Osaka and has some good tourist attractions but when it comes to fitness gym, they are all concentrated between Natoya station and Sakae station. There are 10 local gyms which sell a day pass to travelers but only 4 of them are in convenient location. 9 hotels have a gym but some of them charge even you are a hotel guest because gyms are operated by 3rd party companies. Explanation of each icon of color on the map and my recommendations are as follows.
Please note that upmarket hotels (over $300 per night) are excluded in this map as they all have fitness gyms. This blog is for low-mid budget travelers only. Almost all fitness gyms in Japan do not like to see Tattoo. If you have one, please make sure to cover it during your workout.
AD: Today’s special deal for Nagoya hotels
Recommendation: Nagoya Marriott Associa Hotel stands out in many aspects though it is on the high side of mid budget. It is within the Nagoya station building which has many restaurants and shops. It is very convenient to go anywhere in Nagoya or even to other cities such as Tokyo or Osaka. The gym is also great and hotel guests can use it for free.

Recommendation: Castle Plaza hotel guests can use the gym in the same building called, Ilex at $20 per visit. You need to buy a ticket at the hotel reception. This day pass ticket is available only for hotel guests. This hotel is reasonable and close to the Nagoya Train Station. If you are looking for a low cost hotel & good quality gym, this hotel is a good option.

Below gyms (black icons on the map) sell a day pass to travelers. My recommendation goes to Gold’s Gym Nagoya Sakae. They are in the middle of main Nagoya business/entertainment area; Sakae. They sells a day pass to travelers. You need to bring your passport for ID check and it costs approx. $25 per visit. This gym is not so visible from outside. The easiest way is to find a building “Annex” and take an elevator to 9F.
Verulio Athlete Culb is also not bad as it costs only $15 per visit.
Heat24 has a handful gyms in Nagoya area and they sell a day pass to travelers but only Heat 24 Higashisakura is in convenient location.
If you are a hard core body builder, you can try Jurassic academy. This gym is owned by a local professional body builder “Jurassic Kizawa”. It is far from Nagoya central area and there is no hotel nearby. You can visit and use this gym at $20 per visit.
If you are going to the gym 3-4 times a week during your stay, Finest is a good option. They sell a weekly pass to travelers at $100 per week (they do not sell a day pass)
<TIP> Information about opening hours and its fees are in each icon on the map. All fees are calculated with US$1=100yen (e.g.$20 = 2000yen). All Gold’s Gyms accept the credit card but most of local gyms accept only cash in Japanese Yen. In Japan, one day use at gym is called “Visitor”. They do NOT use the term “Day pass” or “Casual”. As most of gym staff do not speak English, the easiest way to explain at the gym is to say “Visitor”. Most of local gyms require the ID check. So it is better to bring your passport with you.
Purple icon hotels on the map do not have fitness gym but they are within 10 minutes walk from one of the local gyms above. You can choose a hotel depending on your budget.
