Hiroshima is a very popular tourist area in Japan with Atomic bomb dome, Hiroshima Castle, Itsukushima Shrine etc…. For fitness travelers, there are 3 convenient area to stay in Hiroshima. First area is Hiroshima train station area. All transportations for business or holidays go through this main station. There are several good hotels with gym around the station. Second area is Atomic bomb dome area. There is a local gym which sells a day pass in this area and there are a handful of hotels within 10 min walk from this gym. Third area is Hiroshima Castle area. There is a public gym and also there is a hotel with gym in this area. In total there are 4 local gyms which sell a day pass to travelers and 10+ hotels which have an access to gyms. Explanation of each color of icon on the map and my recommendations are as follows.
Please note that upmarket hotels (over $300 per night) are excluded in this map as they all have fitness gyms. This blog is for low-mid budget travelers only. Almost all fitness gyms in Japan do not like to see Tattoo. If you have one, please make sure to cover it during your workout.

Recommendation: Sheraton Grand Hiroshima Hotel is a great option. It is very convenient as it is located within the Hiroshima train station complex. You can take a bullet trains to Osaka, Tokyo etc from here. Also this train station is a hub of all local transportations. The gym in this hotel is spacious with some free weights (rare in Japan) and hotel guests can use it for free.

Below gyms (Black icons on the map) sell a day pass to travelers in this area. For all gyms, you need to bring your passport for ID check and it costs approx. $6-20 per visit (much cheaper than Tokyo). The most convenient location is Lemon Training gym
<TIP> Information about opening hours and its fees are in each icon on the map. All fees are calculated with US$1=100yen (e.g.$20 = 2000yen). Most of local gyms accept only cash in Japanese Yen. In Japan, one day use at gym is called “Visitor”. They do NOT use the term “Day pass” or “Casual”. As most of gym staff do not speak English, the easiest way to explain at the gym is to say “Visitor”.
If you are looking for a reasonable hotel (but still ok hotel), Mielparque Hiroshima is a good option because it is close to the public local gym; Hiroshima Arena ($6 per visit). This hotel is also walking distance to both Hiroshima Castle and Atomic Bomb Dome. Mitsui Garden Hotel Hiroshima is a good and reasonably priced hotel and 5 minutes walk to a local gym; Lemon Training gym($20 per visit)
