Gyms for tourists in Shinjyuku 2024

Tokyo >> Shinjyuku

Shinjyuku is a huge entertainment city with many shops and restaurants in Tokyo. There is a very popular Japanese Garden; Shinjyuku Gyoen. For fitness travelers, unfortunately there are not gyms selling a day pass in convenient locations in this area. You need to take a train for 1-2 stops. See my recommendations below the map.

Below gyms (Red icons on the map) sell a day pass to travelers in Shinjyuku area.

Tipness Higashi Shinjyuku: Day pass costs $25 per visit. Open Mon-Fri 10.00-22.00, Sat 10.00-21.00, Sun 10.00-19.00. There are many reasonable hotels around this gym if you want to stay close to the gym.

Shinjuku Sports Center : Mon-Sun 9.00-22.00. Closed on 4th Mon. Day pass costs $4 per visit. It is a public gym and cheap, but its location is not convenient for tourists. See the official gym website.

It is a bit inconvenient location for tourists but it is cheap and has great facilities. See the official gym website.

All fees are calculated with US$1=100 yen  (e.g.$20 = 2,000 yen) for convenience. To avoid embarrassment and disappointment at the gym, please read these Tips and etiquette before going to the gym in Japan.

Recommendation: Although it is a bit far from the main area of Shinjyuku, Tipness Higashi Shinjyuku is a great option as it is a reasonable price and there are a handful of reasonable 2-4 star hotels within walking distance such as Shinjuku Granbell Hotel. If you are a hardcore, then Powerhouse Gym Hide Yamagishi Tokyo is a great option. Hide Yamagishi is the most successful bodybuilder in Japan, and many athletes go there for training.

Shinjuku is not so fitness friendly place. All gyms selling a day pass are not close to the main area. So it is a good idea to stay at the Hotel Century Southern Tower or Kyushu Hotel Blossom Shinjuku. If you stay at these 4-star hotels, you can use a local gym nearby at $35 per visit (only hotel guests can buy this day pass at hotel receptions). Both hotels are conveniently located for tourists with 3-5 min walk to the Shinjyuku bus terminal to go to Narita airport or Haneda airport.

Another option for fitness travelers in Shinjuku is Hyatt Regency Tokyo. This 4-star hotel has a gym room with a handful of cardio and muscle machines. Also, you can go to Shinjyuku Chuo park in 1 min for jogging. You can walk to the Shinjyuku main entertainment are and also there is a subway station nearby for moving around easily.
