Sendai is a big city in the northern part of Japan with some good tourist spots. For fitness travelers, the best option is to stay close to the JR Sendai station which is closed to a local gym as well as some hotels with gym. In total, there are 2 local gyms which sell a day pass to travelers and 3 hotels with gym in the low - mid budget travelers. Explanation of each color of icon on the map and my recommendations are as follows.
Please note that upmarket hotels (over $300 per night) are excluded in this map as they all have fitness gyms. This blog is for low-mid budget travelers only. Almost all fitness gyms in Japan do not like to see Tattoo. If you have one, please make sure to cover it during your workout.

Recommendation: Hotel Metropolitan Sendai East is a great option. It is very convenient as it is located next to JR Sendai train station where all transportations stop including bullet trains from Tokyo. They have a gym with 4 cardio machines and stretch area and hotel guests can use it for free. If you want a full workout, you can walk to Gold Gym Sendai Miyagi in 5 min where you can buy a day pass at $25 per visit. They are 24hrs open.

The Westin hotel is upmarket hotel chain and the price is usually high but Sendai is a bit country city. So the price can be lower than other city’s depending on the season. They have a gym and hotel guests can use it for free.

If you want the cheapest hotel with gym, you can try Capsule Hotel Topos Sendai Station Nishiguchi. It is a Cupsule hotel just for men. There is a gym, spa and lounge in a separate area and you go to your Cupsule only when you sleep. I has got a small TV and Wifi is available. Surprisingly comfortable.

There are 2 Gold’s Gym which sell a day pass to travelers (black icons on the map) For both gyms, you need to bring your passport for ID check. Gold Gym Sendai Miyagi is in convenient location in front of Sendai train station.
<TIP> Information about opening hours and its fees are in each icon on the map. All fees are calculated with US$1=100yen (e.g.$20 = 2000yen). Most of local gyms accept only cash in Japanese Yen. In Japan, one day use at gym is called “Visitor”. They do NOT use the term “Day pass” or “Casual”. As most of gym staff do not speak English, the easiest way to explain at the gym is to say “Visitor”.
