Gyms for tourists in Shiba 2024

Tokyo >> Shiba / Hamamatsucho

Shiba/Hamamatsucho, located next to Ginza in Tokyo, is best known for the popular Tokyo Tower. Also, it is a convenient area to go to Haneda International airport. It takes 25 min from Hamamatsucho station. So, if you need to stay in Tokyo just for 1 night for transit and want to go to a gym, this is a good area to stay. Though it is not a big city, there are a decent number of hotels and restaurants between Hamamatsucho station and Tokyo Tower. For fitness travelers, there are 3 local gyms with day pass. As most hotels with gym have small fitness room with only cardio machines, it would be better to stay at a hotel near those local gyms. There are many hotels in this area. You can choose depending on your budget. See my recommendations below the map.

Minato City Sports Center: This is a public gym and they sell a day pass to travelers. $8 per visit. Cheap but big and nice gym. Mon-Sun 8.30-22.00, Closed on 1st Mon. See the official gym website.

All fees are calculated with US$1=100 yen  (e.g.$20 = 2,000 yen) for convenience. To avoid embarrassment and disappointment at the gym, please read this Tips and etiquette before going to the gym in Japan.

Recommendation: Gold’s Gym Hamamatsucho is close to Hamamatsucho station, and it is a great gym. This gym even has a small sauna room.

Minato City Sports Center is one of the best public gyms in Tokyo. Though its location is not so convenient for tourists (not in a major entertainment district), it is still convenient to move around as it is a 5 min walk to both Tamachi and Mita train stations. This public gym is great value for money, with a day pass costing only $8 per visit (and still a good gym !).

If you are a serious fitness traveler managing your diet carefully, you might want a kitchen in the room. For those, Section L Hamamatsucho is a good option. It is not a fancy hotel at all (it is rather AirBNB style apartment) but they have a kitchen and washing machine in the room. The location is great being close to the Hamamatsucho station (5 min walk) and Gold’s Gym Hamamatsucho (8 min walk). It is a bit hard to find in the middle of many buildings. I lost walking around for 10 min with a Google map in hand !

If you are a budget traveler with 3 star category, Henn na Hotel Tokyo Hamamatsucho would be a good option. In English, it is translated as "Strange hotel". As suggested in the name, a human robot will welcome you at reception, and almost everything will be served by robots or machines in this hotel. The location is very good. If you are looking for a quick 1 night stay to go to Haneda airport next day, this would be an interesting choice. FYI the room is small and simple. Most importantly, it is only 5 min walk to Gold’s Gym Hamamatsucho and Hamamatsucho station. Check out the review and price from here.

Another hotel good for a quick stay in this area (before going to Haneda airport) is Super Hotel Tokyo Hamamatsucho. They are close to Hamamatsu-cho station and only a 1 min walk to In the Gym Hamamatsucho. It also has three washing machines for hotel guests to use.

If you want to stay at a reasonable quality hotel in this area, my recommendation goes to Richmond Hotel Tokyo Shiba. This 3-star hotel is close to Shiba park (good for jogging) and walking distance from Tokyo Tower. Starbucks coffee is on the ground floor and a convenience store is across the road. It is not a fancy hotel but a very comfortable hotel to stay. And most importantly it takes 12 min walk to Gold’s Gym Hamamatsucho, and Hamamatsucho station (to go to the Haneda airport) is just a 10 min walk.
